Lakeville, Minnesota, is a community deeply rooted in history and brimming with a vibrant spirit that continues to thrive today. From its early days as a milling center to its current status as a dynamic suburb, Lakeville has always been a place where residents take pride in their heritage and actively participate in community life.
Honoring Our Past
Established in 1855, Lakeville’s origins are closely tied to the construction of a military road designed by Captain William B. Dodd. This road, connecting Fort Snelling to southern forts, played a pivotal role in the area’s development. Today, the Lakeville Area Historical Society is dedicated to preserving and sharing this rich history, offering residents and visitors alike a glimpse into the past that shaped our community.
Celebrating Together
Lakeville’s community spirit shines through its numerous events that bring people together. The annual Pan-O-Prog Grand Parade is a highlight, drawing nearly 20,000 spectators who line the streets to enjoy vibrant floats, energetic performances, and a festive atmosphere. This event not only showcases local talent but also fosters a sense of unity and pride among residents.
Another cherished tradition is the ‘Live at the Lake’ concert series held at Casperson Park’s outdoor performance stage. Running from June through September, these free concerts feature a diverse lineup of music and performance groups, providing a perfect setting for families and friends to gather and enjoy the beauty of Lake Marion.
Supporting Local Initiatives
Community organizations like the Rotary Club of Lakeville play a significant role in enhancing our town’s quality of life. Through events such as the ‘Taste of Lakeville,’ the Rotary Club raises funds to support various local projects, demonstrating the power of collective effort in making a positive impact.
As we continue to grow and evolve, it’s essential to honor our past and actively participate in the present. By engaging in community events and supporting local initiatives, we strengthen the bonds that make Lakeville a remarkable place to call home.
